For centuries, the written and spoken word has played a crucial role in the formation of communities and the dissemination of knowledge. From manuscript, to printed novels, to the invention of Twitter, humans have relied on text in various forms to connect, learn, and grow as individuals and as a society.

The preservation of text has played an important role in the attempt to bridge the gap between cultures of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

This long-standing relationship between texts as material heritage objects that should be carefully preserved, and as content carriers that help sustaining society as we know it is the interest of TXT’s anniversary 10th edition, forthcoming September 2023.

Exploring text across the centuries and analysing how texts continue to change in the 21st century help us more fully grasp and appreciate the ways in which text is, and texts are, intrinsically linked to our humanity.

TXT is now accepting for publication original manuscripts for scholarly articles, of no longer than 3000 words, on the topic of

Centuries of TeXT.

Explorations may include, but are not limited to:

  • What is the importance of textual cultural heritage being preserved and documented?

  • How do a text's (im)material form and content affect its role in society and the probability of its preservation?

  • How do texts change through time, and across geographical location?

  • How has the circulation of text developed in societies under restrictive regimes?

  • In what ways do readers engage with written works that originate from various cultural backgrounds?

  • What is the role and significance of the agents of the book who produce, disseminate, and review textual objects in the preservation of text?
