Welcome

to the official website of Leiden University's TXT Magazine!

In 2023, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of our academic journal.

TXT Magazine is the journal of Leiden University’s Master of Arts in Book and Digital Media Studies program, edited and published by the MA’s students.

Text is arguably one of the most important tools of human communication. For centuries, the written and spoken word has played a crucial role in the formation of communities and the dissemination of knowledge. From manuscripts to printed novels to the invention of Twitter, humans have relied on text in various forms to connect, learn, and grow as individuals and as a society.

As humans look to conserve and understand the past, as well as advance into a better future, the preservation of text has played an important role in the attempt to bridge the gap between societies of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

This long-standing relationship between texts as objects, as pieces of history that should be carefully preserved, and as relevant components to the maintainance of society as we know it is the interest of TXT’s 10th edition, fourthcoming September 2023.

Through this exploration of texts across the centuries and how texts continue to change in the 21st century, perhaps we can more fully grasp and appreciate the ways in which text is intrinsically linked to our humanity.
