For centuries, the written and spoken word has played a crucial role in the formation of communities and the dissemination of knowledge. From manuscript, to printed novels, to the invention of Twitter, humans have relied on text in various forms to connect, learn, and grow as individuals and as a society.

The preservation of text has played an important role in the attempt to bridge the gap between cultures of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.


This long-standing relationship between texts as material heritage objects that should be carefully preserved, and as content carriers that help sustaining society as we know it is the interest of TXT’s anniversary 10th edition, forthcoming September 2023.

Exploring text across the centuries and analysing how texts continue to change in the 21st century help us more fully grasp and appreciate the ways in which text is, and texts are, intrinsically linked to our humanity.

 

Such valuable explorations may well come in artistic forms, to be published alongside scholarly articles. TXT is therefore now accepting for publication original creative works on the topic of

Centuries of TeXT.

Formats may include, but are not limited to:

  • Videos and/or audio essays

  • Illustrations and/or photographs

  • Blog posts

  • Written works


Themes may include, but are not limited to:

  • Textual culture.

  • Textual preservation.

  • Agents of text, among which producers and distributors

  • Media forms derived from textual culture.

  • Roles of text in society.

  • Textuality and censorship/propaganda.

  • Readers of texts.


Contributors should submit a digital version of their work, formatted as an attachment to an email. Upon acceptance for publication, the Editorial Board will negotiate with the creator the specific ways in which this work may be published. The Board aims for a digital publication as well as a representation in the paper magazine. Contributors may consult the board prior to the submission of their work should there be any questions.

The work should be sent along with the contributor’s name, title, organization affiliation (if any), and correspondence e-mail address.
